A sustainable space sector means Australians can continue to benefit from space services now and into the future.
This will create an ecosystem that will not only support the economic resilience of the domestic space sector, and beyond, but will also mitigate potential environmental and social impacts.
The Australian Space Agency is seeking input on a potential Australian sustainability of space activities policy.
We welcome feedback from industry, academia, government and the public.
Feedback can include views on the policy's vision and themes, priority of each theme and the role of the Australian Government and other stakeholders.
Scope of the policy
The proposed changes include three different elements of the sustainability of civil space activities in Australia. These elements are:
- Economy
- Considers the growth and resilience of the sector through the adoption of sustainable business practices.
- Environmental
- Considers the transition to net zero and a more circular economy.
- Social
- Considers the cohesiveness and fairness of society.
